There　was　another　silence。　Again　came　the　cry　of　labour。

〃I　want　my　mother；〃　rang　automatically　from　the　wincing；

panic…stricken　child；　that　felt　cut　off　and　lost　in　a　horror　of

desolation。

Tilly　came　forward；　her　heart　wrung。
